ACN Camp Health Online Courses

Honestly, I think the diabetes course was really good! Having cared for a diabetic camper for 3 summers, the information and examples were everything we encountered. This course included all of the important topics needed to know…..I think this course is great for camp nurse review.

Beyond COVID19: Communicable Disease Updates & Response Plans for Camps

Linda Erceg, RN, MS, PHN

COVID19’s impact upon the Camp Community included several lessons for communicable disease response that challenged previously held assumptions. One of these is the importance of developing a response plan that distinguishes among endemic, localized, epidemic, and pandemic outbreaks. Using these and other concepts, this session describes the essential components for a given camp’s communicable disease plan and updates camp nurses regarding communicable disease management based on contemporary information from camp professionals and sources such as M. Osterholm, the CDC, and R. Webber.

Reduce the Risk for Medication Errors: Key Nursing Considerations for Common Camp Medications

Michael Ambrose, MD

As a camp nurse you are likely to dispense hundreds, if not thousands, of medications each summer, and many medications that you may not be familiar with. It is essential that you understand the principles of medication management and administration to ensure the health and safety of the campers and staff you care for at camp.  Together we will review best practices to minimize the potential for medication errors and review common medications you are likely to administer at camp.

What a great overall course! (Intro to Camp Nursing) I needed some structure after I volunteered to be the camp nurse for a church camp. I didn’t know my state has standards already – If I didn’t follow those – or document that I followed those – I would be responsible, either way. I am especially pleased to have guidance on dispensing meds…….

This is to coolest kind of nursing! who knew? As an empty nester who works in public health nursing, this was a great seed to plant.

The first aid supply list had many great ideas. Thank you!
